There Is No Escape from Jeffrey John Eyamie At Octopus Books

Winnipeg, February 16, 2016—There is No Escape from Greatness for Gabriel Pegg…you know, Port-o-Potty Guy…from Erratic Automatic? Remember him?

Not ringing any bells? Well, those bells will be rung soon enough. Gabriel Pegg is the hapless protagonist from Jeffrey John Eyamie’s hilarious novel, No Escape from Greatness, which will be debuting at Octopus Books, on Tuesday April 12, 2016 from 6–8 p.m. for a book signing and viewing of the companion video.

No Escape tells the tale of Gabriel Pegg, a former sketch comedy troupe star (think Kids in the Hall), who is forced to return to his hometown, the fictional Greatness, Manitoba, after his shot at a serious acting career in Hollywood goes bust.

Hoping to wiggle out of his parental commitments to his 11-year-old-daughter Toon so that he can finally assume his rightful place as a world-venerated-artist, Gabriel, holding true to form, makes a complete hash of it and ends up tied to a six-days-a-week shared custody. Custody that he must share, right there in Greatness, Manitoba.

Determined to make lemon spritzers out of life’s lemons, Gabriel sets out to film his great artistic masterpiece, right there in Greatness, with the help of some willing and not so willing locals.

Insanity ensues.

Really funny and terribly dark, No Escape from Greatness explores artistic ambition, parental obligations, and small town life with a wry and cynical eye.

"Beautifully written, sharply observed, warm, wise, and funny, No Escape From Greatness is the thing we've all been waiting for . . . the Great Canadian Novel! But if there is already one (what the hell do I know, I'm an American, we don't know anything!) then, by God, this one is the next one!"
--Steve Kaplan, Script Consultant, Author, The Hidden Tools of Comedy: The Serious Business of Being Funny.

With his screenwriting background, Jeffrey John Eyamie worked in the writers’ room of Less Than Kind (HBO Canada) he plays with a variety of formats, using both screenplay scripting and traditional narrative to tell the story of Gabriel Pegg.
