It is with great sadness and regret that Turnstone Press announces the passing of our author, editor, and partner, Wayne Tefs. As our fiction editor, Wayne worked with many of our writers, shaping many of the books published in Turnstone's long history. As one of our founding fathers, Wayne helped guide the Press through many of the ups and downs the writing and publishing industry has faced over the years.
In his long career with Turnstone Press, Wayne published nine novels, one short fiction collection, and two memoirs. His most recent novel, Barker, is still forthcoming and will be celebrated in the coming weeks. As a talented writer, Wayne leaves behind a tremendous legacy of work that will be enjoyed for years to come. His books Moon Lake and Be Wolf won the Margaret Laurence Award for fiction and the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award, respectively.
His work with Turnstone Press includes:
- Figures on a Wharf (novel)
- The Cartier Street Contract (novel)
- The Canasta Players (novel)
- Home Free (novel)
- Moon Lake (novel)
- Rollercoaster (memoir)
- 4X4 (novel)
- Be Wolf (novel)
- Meteor Storm (short fiction)
- Bandit (novel)
- On the Fly (memoir)
- Barker (novel)
- Hearts Wild (editor, anthology)
- Made in Manitoba (editor, anthology)

A friend, colleague, and mentor, Wayne, his words, and his wisdom will be missed.
