Jiggers

Todd Bruce remembers the life of Jiggers, an alcoholic anti-hero who performed his daily rituals with only barstools for pews, a skid row bar as his cathedral and Mary, his lover, as his only witness. In life, Jiggers aimlessly wandered city streets, leaving no trace of himself or of his marginal existence. In memory, he makes the transition from real to symbolic, larger in death than he ever was in life. With these poems, the young poet mythologizes Jiggers, exploring the nature of memory while searching for beauty and significance in a life that was of no consequence.
